School Programs

After School Programs are our most popular classes. They are convenient for parents who work past 3:00 and want their child to continue learning after school has ended. Classes run in 8 week sessions for one hour either before or after school. After School programs take place in the schools and students can come directly after class.

CheckMates has created a unique curriculum specifically for schools. We know that even the most talented students get worn out after a long day at school; and we have  designed a highly energetic program especially for them. Our instructors use chess puzzles, physical activities, and a number of specialized chess games to find the best way for your child to learn. CheckMates has eight levels designed to maximize the "mates" abilities and keep everyone challenged. The curriculum for each level is highly focused to fit each child's needs. During the session, CheckMates organizes school versus school tournaments to add an extra element of excitement to the schedule.

Community Centers

Community Centers offer an opportunity for “mates” to start new friendships that could last for years. With more diverse classrooms, community centers offer children the opportunity to expand their circle of friends outside of their school. With a common interest in mind, "mates" will work together to solve chess puzzles, analyze historical games, and even apply their chess strategies to various sports. An inner-center tournament will also be held to provide an opportunity for students to display their skills. Upon the completion of each session, the “mate” receives a promotion in rank and a prize.

Libraries

Libraries offer an opportunity for children from different schools to foster new friendships and provide for a place to learn and increase their knowledge of chess. CheckMates provides a special curriculum for libraries that caters to the needs of children of all ages and chess experience. Upon the completion of the course, "mates" will be presented with a certificate of achievement.
