Where did Chess originate?

Chess originated from a game call Caturangain India. This game was a similution of war, with its pieces being infantry, calvary, elephants, and chariots. This was in the 6th Century! In the 9th century, the game spread to Europe. By year 1000, Chess was popular all over the European countries. Around 1200, the rules were modified with Check and Checkmate into the version that we play to this date.

War Elephants were replaced by rooks.
