Des Plaines Public Library Tournament

This is from the Scholastic Chess Tournament CheckMates Chess Academy held in Des Plaines Illinois at the Des Plaines Public Library. This is a kids events sponsored by Friends of the Des Plaines Library and run by Checkmates Chess Academy. Kids between the ages of 5 and 12 came to the library for this kids event to play in a chess tournament. CheckMates Chess Academy also ran kids chess classes at the Des Plaines Library for two weeks prior teaching chess to two groups of kids (beginners and players that already knew the game of chess) different chess techniques and preparing them for the chess tournament.

CheckMates Chess Academy hosted a free kids chess tournament at the Des Plaines Public Library on Saturday October 22nd, 2011! Around 40 kids of all different ages ( grades K-6th) showed up to compete in this fun filled kid’s event.

Chess Players were split up into two groups: a beginners division and an open division. . All the children that participated earned a prize because their showed excellent sportsmanship and all tried their hardest. Everyone left the day happy and pumped to play more chess!

Elk Grove Village Public Library Tournament

This is from the Scholastic Chess Tournament CheckMates Chess Academy held in Elk Grove Village Illinois at the Elk Grove Village Public Library. This is a kids events sponsored by CheckMates Chess Academy and Youth Services at Elk Grove Village Library. Kids between the ages of 5 and 12 came to the library for this kids event to play in a chess tournament. CheckMates Chess Academy also ran kids chess classes at the Elk Grove Village Library for three weeks prior teaching chess to two groups of kids (beginners and players that already knew the game of chess) different chess techniques and preparing them for the chess tournament.

Aspen Drive Library Kids Chess  Tournament

CheckMates Chess Academy held a chess tournament in Vernon Hills at the Aspen Drive Library. The chess tournament was open to all kids kindergarten through sixth grades. Around 50 children kids showed up to play chess on this fun summer chess event. For three weeks before the chess tournament CheckMates Chess Academy ran chess classes at the Aspen Drive Library. There was a class for beginners, kids who didn’t know to play chess, and one that taught chess strategies to kids who already knew the rules to chess. Congratulations to Dylan for winning First Place in the Open Division and Rebecca won Fist Place in the beginners  chess division!

Chess Tournament at Vernon Area Public Library in Lincolnshire

On May 7th, CheckMates Chess Academy hosted a free chess tournament at Vernon Area Public Library for children chess players in the community. 40 kids participated, each of which earned a prize, in this fun filled tournament. The tournament lasted for two hours and was no elimination. Kelly was crowned the Champion of the Beginners and Andrew was Champion of the Open Division. CheckMates Chess Academy will be hosting another set of chess classes and a tournament again in September.

Chess Tournament at Cook Memorial Library in Libertyville

On April 30th, CheckMates Chess Academy held a chess tournament following a set of chess classes at Cook Memorial Library in Libertyville, Illinois. All the children who participated did a great job and earned prizes! Special Congratulations to the Winners: Nikhail for the Open Chess Group and Abby for the Beginners!

Milwaukee Chess Fest 2011

Milwaukee Chess Fest was held at Swallow Elementary School Hartland, Wisconsin. Children had an opportunity to test their skills against new opponents, participate in a mini chess tournament, play bughouse along with other alternative chess games, as well as learn new tactics and strategies from chess lessons.

Des Plaines Library Kids Chess  Tournament

CheckMates Chess Academy held a chess tournament in North Chicago at the Des Plaines Library. The chess tournament was open to all kids kindergarten through sixth grades. The program was sponsored by the Friends of the Des Plaines Library, which hosts chess classes at the Des Plaines Library several times a year.

Chess Classes at Children’s Memorial Hospital

CheckMates Chess Academy volunteers at the Brown Family Life Center at Children’s Memorial Hospital to teach the kids chess as a healthy distraction. For the last two year, kids at Children’s Memorial Hospital has been learning chess with their family and using it to bring positive light into their hospital experience.
